The X6 is BMW’s coupe-style SUV. It has the presence and road manners people love, with the strong, efficient six-cylinder diesel in the xDrive30d. Bought well, a used X6 offers a lot of luxury for the money.
The basics
The third-generation X6, known as the G06, arrived in Australia in 2019. The xDrive30d uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel, listed at 195 kW and 620 Nm for Australian cars, with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. The M Sport package adds sportier styling and equipment.
Is the shape right for you?
The sloping roofline is the reason people buy an X6, but it does take away some rear headroom and boot height compared with an X5. Sit in the back, load the boot with what you normally carry, and check the rear visibility and cameras. If you need maximum space, an X5 may suit you better.

The diesel
The six-cylinder diesel is smooth, strong and economical on longer drives. Modern diesels use a particulate filter that cleans itself on the open road, so a car that only ever did short trips may have had issues with it. Ask how the car was used and watch for warning lights.
Servicing
I want to see a complete service history from BMW or a qualified specialist, done on time. Check the condition-based service display in the car and ask what has been done recently. Read our guide to buying a used European car for more.
The usual checks still apply
Run a PPSR check, check for recalls by VIN on the vehicle recall register, and look closely at the large wheels and tyres.
